I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to ackno”-
ledge the receipt of your latter of the 27th ultimo
with regard to the closure of the British Post Office
at Tientsin.
I am to inform you that a despatch is shortly
expected from the Governor of Hongkong by mail res-
pecting the question.
It is proposed to await its receipt before con-
sidering the points raised in your memorandum,
but
this Department is in communication with the Colonial
Office with a view to an early decision being arrived
at in regard to the proposed conclusion of a emporary
arrangement pending a final decision on the general
question.
